Description

This code list contains codes from the NHS dictionary of medicines and devices (dm+d) for a collection of antidepressants from the BNF Chapter 040304 known as Other Antidepressants. These medicines are all licensed for the treatment of depression. The following antidepressants from this chapter have been excluded: Flupenthixol, Levomilnacripan, Oxitriptan. See github discussion for further details. Trazodone and Mianserin (both from BNF Chapter 040301) have also been included in this codelist. This codelist does not contain Bupropion, because this is not licensed in the UK for depression.

Methodology

All BNF codes that begin with 040304 were included (defined as Other antidepressants) except for Flupenthixol, Levomilnacripan and Oxitriptan. Mianserin and Trazodone were also included.

See github discussion for more details. These BNF codes were then mapped to dm+d using OpenPrescribing methodology.

For some studies it may be necessary to include other antidepressant codelists.

Codelists are developed by a broad community of users for individual study purposes, which may or may not meet the needs of other studies. They should not be thought of as universal definitions of a particular condition.

We don't offer any guarantees about what they do or don't identify. Users should carefully check that any codelist meets their needs, and seek clinical input where appropriate.

* dm+d codelists can be downloaded with codes mapped to changed VMPs included - this is the default for an OpenSAFELY project. See the documentation on keeping codelists up to date for more details.

* Note that this is the full list of explicitly included dm+d codes for this codelist. An OpenSAFELY project will by default also include previous or subsequent codes for any included VMPs that may have changed code. See the documentation on keeping codelists up to date for more details.
